We are looking for a Housing Advice & Homelessness Officer to complete a temporary contract for a local authority base in South Wales.
The purpose of the role is to assess the needs of applicants presenting as homeless.
To identify and advise on the appropriate housing options available and deliver interventions necessary with the aim of preventing Homelessness.
Duties will include:
To ensure that service users are placed at the heart of the Service, are treated courteously and fairly and consulted on all aspects of their service provision.
Assisting in the operation of the Authority’s obligation under current Housing Legislation.
Interviewing new and existing applicants under current Housing Legislation providing assistance in completing the necessary application form, explaining the Authority’s obligations, assessing their rights to be housed and giving further advice as necessary.
Ensuring that good quality housing advice is given to applicants to prevent homelessness and to enable applicants to resolve their own housing difficulties.
Help develop a proactive and preventive housing advice service.
In seeking to prevent homelessness, liaise with families, mortgage lenders, private landlords, solicitors, courts and other relevant agencies, organisations and individuals.
Interview applicants in the office/external surgeries, and carry out home visit where necessary/more appropriate.
Placing applicants in temporary accommodation, making the necessary contacts and completing all necessary paperwork.

Current homelessness legislation, case law, codes of practice
Housing advisory function
Working in a housing environment or directly related area, e.g. welfare benefits, CAB.
Dealing with people from a range of backgrounds.
Experience of working with competing deadlines whilst meeting targets.
