My client is looking for a qualified Quantity Surveyor to carry out an out going temporary contract with the opportunity to apply for the permanent position.
You will carry out the full range of professional duties associated with quantity surveying practice for building works. You will ensure that assigned work is carried out to an agreed programme and within the allocated fee.
To act as a member of a multi-disciplinary design team for building projects undertaking full pre and post-contract Quantity Surveying duties on a range of construction projects mainly under £2,000,000 in value.
Primary duties expected of the candidate would include:
•Undertaking cost estimates for feasibility purposes and/or to define project budgets to be included in the Capital Programme.
•Analysis of the effect of design changes on the project budget.
•Cost planning to refine the budget as the design develops.
•Advising on the suitability of alternative Forms of Contract and methods of procurement.
•Drafting and production of tender/contract documentation for construction/demolition related projects.
•Advising on potential health and safety implications of a design.
•Advising on compliance with relevant legislation and Codes of Practice.
•Vetting and selection of contractor’s for inclusion on tender lists using Constructionline computerised national database of qualifying contractors.
•Evaluation and analysis of tender submissions and drafting of Tender Report recommending an appropriate course of action (e.g. acceptance of tender, approved budget be increased due to shortfall in funding, etc.).
•Liaison with Lawyers regarding provision of documentation for execution of Contract including drafting of Letters of Intent when applicable.
•Undertaking interim valuations in order to ascertain the value of progress payments due to external contractors and drafting interim certificates.
•Calculating the value of variations to design or quantities that may arise during the course of a contract.
•Continuous monitoring of the anticipated final cost of each project and presentation of financial statements on a regular basis.
•Resolving contractual disputes and settling contactor’s claims for loss and/or expense
•Providing advice on construction law.
•Settlement of the final account for each project.
To apply for this role you will need to have
•Good organisational, financial and written skills.
•Experience of undertaking the full range of Client’s Quantity Surveyors duties on construction projects from initial budget estimate to settlement of final account.
•Computer literate including being proficient in the use of the following software packages and online services:
•Microsoft Word for word processing including the drafting of tender/contract documents, reports, letters, forms, etc.
•Microsoft Excel for establishing and maintaining spreadsheets such as Capital monitoring and fee reports, spend profiles, cost statements, etc.
•National Building Specification (NBS) software suite for the drafting Preliminaries and Specifications for incorporation into tender/contract documentation
•Constructionline national computerised register of construction and construction related contractors and consultants for compilation of tender lists.
•Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyor’s Building Cost Information Service (BCIS online) to obtain relevant cost information such as cost analyses, indices, labour rates, etc.
•Experience in alternative methods of procurement for construction projects.
•An understanding of the relevant legislation and regulations relating to the construction industry.
